Momordica charantia L. (Cucurbitaceae), commonly known as bitter gourd or bitter melon, is widely cultivated in many tropical and subtropical regions of the world, and its unripe fruits are consumed as a vegetable. The plant contains triterpenoids, saponins, polypeptides, flavonoids, alkaloids, and sterols.
