THE ROLE OF WORD FORMATION IN ENRICHING ENGLISH VOCABULARY

Word formation plays a pivotal role in the continuous enrichment and dynamism of the English lexicon. Through diverse processes such as affixation, compounding, conversion, and blending, the English language expands its vocabulary to meet the evolving communicative needs of society. This paper examines the principal mechanisms of word formation and their contribution to lexical innovation, semantic diversification, and stylistic development. Special attention is given to the influence of sociocultural, technological, and globalization factors on the acceleration of neologism creation. The study underscores the importance of understanding word formation processes for linguistic competence, lexicographical practices, and language teaching methodologies.
