Abstract

This article examines the fundamental principles and methodological approaches employed in derivational research within the framework of comparative linguistics. Derivational processes represent a crucial mechanism through which languages generate new lexical units, and their comparative analysis reveals both universal patterns and language-specific features. The study explores theoretical foundations of derivational studies, investigates cross-linguistic patterns in word formation, and analyzes the cultural and semantic dimensions of derivational processes. Drawing upon recent research in English and Uzbek languages, this article demonstrates how derivational analysis contributes to understanding linguistic typology, semantic categorization, and the relationship between language structure and cultural conceptualization. The comparative approach to derivational research illuminates not only structural differences between languages but also reveals deeper connections between linguistic forms and socio-cultural contexts. This research emphasizes the importance of derivational studies in advancing our understanding of language universals, linguistic diversity, and the cognitive mechanisms underlying lexical innovation.
