Xromosoma — bu hujayra yadrosida joylashgan irsiy axborotni (genlarni) saqlovchi tuzilma. Xromosomalar DNK va oqsillardan tashkil topgan bo‘lib, ular orqali irsiy belgilar ota-onadan farzandga o‘tadi. Uning o`zgarishi esa turli kasalliklarga sabab bo`ladi. Shu bilan birga xromosoma sonining kam bo`lishi yoki normadan ko`p bo`lishi aqli zaiflikka olib keladi. Xromosoma odamda 2n=46 holatda. Ulardan 44tasi autosoma (tana) xromosoma 2 tasi jinsiy xromosoma hisoblanadi.
