Abstract

This research examines the linguopragmatic role of humor in English communication and its significance in interpersonal interaction. The study analyzes how humor functions within different communicative contexts and how linguistic and pragmatic elements contribute to the interpretation of humorous expressions. Special attention is given to irony, sarcasm, wordplay, jokes, and cultural references in English discourse. The research explores the role of humor in maintaining social relationships, reducing communicative tension, expressing emotions, and strengthening interaction between speakers. It also investigates how context, background knowledge, and cultural factors influence the understanding of humor in English communication. Using descriptive, analytical, and comparative methods, the study demonstrates that humor is not only a linguistic phenomenon but also an important pragmatic tool that shapes effective communication and social interaction.
