Football is one of the most accessible and socially influential team sports for young people. Its developmental value cannot be reduced to physical activity alone, because the game simultaneously requires endurance, coordination, tactical thinking, emotional self-regulation, communication and responsibility within a team. The purpose of this article is to analyze the impact of football on youth physical and mental development through a synthesis of international health guidelines, systematic reviews and sport-pedagogical interpretations. The analysis shows that regular, age-appropriate football participation contributes to cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular endurance, speed, agility, balance, motor coordination and healthier body composition. At the psychological level, football may support self-confidence, attention, working memory, stress regulation, resilience and social belonging. At the same time, developmental benefits are not automatic. Excessive competition, early specialization, unsafe coaching, overtraining and exclusion may weaken the educational effect of football. Therefore, football should be organized as a health-promoting, psychologically safe and pedagogically guided process aimed at the integrated development of the young person.
